Treatment
TITLE: TBD
LENGTH: 2-3 min
WRITER: Jonathan Camit, Han-Wei Kung, Amanda Ashby
DATE: 10-28-13
The goal of Messages is to show how technology has isolated people instead of bringing them closer together. We are going to do 2D animation using Adobe Illustrator in the style of ‘The State of Wikipedia’ and the Chipotle Ad. Visually, the shapes will be mostly flat planes of color with secondary textures.
Scenes:
In the first scene, there is a close up of a letter being written, and a zoom out to reveal the writer, who will be the lead character.
Next, we see the journey of the letter and its arrival to the second character. These shots are meant to establish a relationship between the characters, and subsequently we will see how their relationship evolves as new technologies come about.
The turning point will be when both of the characters start using computers. One shot will show a character opening up a box and taking out the computer, and then we will see shots of both of the characters typing on their computers.
To show the isolation caused by technology, we will use a visual metaphor of floating screens following the characters’ heads as they walk around. They will eventually walk past each other, but because they are surrounded by the screens, they won’t acknowledge each other.
One character will sit down at his computer and see that he has thousands of unread e-mails. He is overwhelmed and decides to walk outside. Away from the haze of technology, he is able to see people again, and the last shot is of the two characters meeting each other once again.
